Tammy and I hit the road on October 11 after staying a few days at Silver Lake resort. We lined up Camp Host jobs there next year so our summer is set. It is one of the oldest fishing resorts in the Sierras. They have cabins, a store, a restaurant with awesome blueberry pancakes, boat rentals, and an RV park where we will be working. The main difference there is that the resort is privately run versus the campground which was owned by the Forest Service.
We headed south in seek of warmer weather, it got as low as 14 degrees at night at Silver Lake. Our first stop was to a place that our co-host Robert told us about near Lone Pine called the Alabama Hills. It is open BLM land (read FREE) our favorite kind of camping. We found a little private spot and pulled over.
I got out and scouted out the area and of course took some pictures. We were camped in the shadow of Mt. Whitney, at 14,494 ft the highest peak in the U.S. outside Alaska. I believe that it is the one in the center of the picture above.
We only stayed one night because at 5,000 ft it was still a little chilly at night. So, you guessed it, we pointed Miss Sea View to the South and moved out.
